The Glycaemic Index Testing Protocol was conducted on the Slimavite low Gi diet shake by The Leatherhead Food Research, a nationally recognised UK Food Laboratory and conducted to World Health Organisation and FHO guidelines.
The Slimavite Shake was certified to have a low Glycaemic Index of 35
Conditions Of The Gi test
Ten Subjects
Age range 18-60 years
Healthy and free from medication
Each subject had a similar meal prior to each test session
Interpretation of Results
High Gi is anything over 70
Medium Gi is 55 and 69
Low Gi is anything less than 55
Method
Each subject was studied in the morning.
Two test legs for each substance.
The control (glucose) was tested in triplicate.
The study was randomised to remove any order effects.
Each subject received one portion of test drink (33g Slimavite GI Shake powder in 283ml of semi-skimmed milk).
The control was 25g glucose dissolved in 500mls water.
The area under the two hour blood glucose curves for each test substance and control legs were then calculated for each person by dividing their blood glucose AUC for the test food by the blood glucose AUC for the reference food.
The result is then expressed as a percentage. The final Gi value for the test food is the average of 10 subjects' results.
