Have you written your ‘bucket list’ yet?

Checklist

We’ve all heard of New Year’s Resolutions – but have you made any LIFE resolutions?

If losing weight is one of your aims, then you’ll know that setting goals is an important tool for keeping you on track. Visualising where they want to be and how it will feel to achieve your goals can be very motivating.

But it’s not just weight loss which can benefit from a little goal setting.

A ‘bucket list’, made famous by a film of the same name, is a list of things you want to do and achieve before you die (and ‘kick the bucket’!).

In the same way that you may make New Year’s Resolutions, making a bucket list is a way to set yourself both short term and long term life goals.

Begin by writing down everything you want to achieve – no matter how small or large they may be – and do not hesitate or be afraid to dream big.

Your list may include something as small as finally printing off those family photos and creating an album, inviting friends round for a dinner party or finishing that DIY project. Right up to learning to scuba dive, climbing a mountain, visiting the ruins in Peru or learning a new language.

By writing down your goals and referring back to them regularly, you will be encouraging behaviours to be set in motion which can help lead to making them happen.

Look at your list and see which ones you can achieve in the next week or in the next year? Then think which are the long term goals and how might you reach them?

For each goal, what steps do you need to take to reach them. Then keep referring back to the list regularly and tick each one off as you achieve them. Remember the more focused you are on your goals, the more likely you are to accomplish them. And before you know it, you may be seeing your dreams come true.
