Diabetes is a common disorder whereby the body does not produce enough insulin or produces ineffective quantities of insulin, which the body requires to enable all its cells to take up glucose for nourishment.

Which Type?
There are two types of Diabetes. Type 1 is where the body stops producing insulin via the pancreas. It usually affects children and younger people and its onset is severe. This type needs insulin for treatment. In contrast, Type 2 mainly affects older people and those who are overweight. Onset is often slow and only diagnosed after an eye test or routine medical. Symptoms vary but can include excessive thirst, tiredness and the need to pass urine frequently. This type can often be managed by following a diet that controls the production of insulin through carefully managing sugars in the blood.

What You Eat Is Vitally Important
Altering the diet to maintain lower blood glucose levels is often the key to managing diabetes.

Low Gi Is a good starting point
An eating regime where low Gi foods are the core enables the blood sugar level to be more readily managed. In most people these foods will not give the dangerous sugar rush then slump that high Gi foods do, which is what diabetics find so difficult to cope with. And, since most Type 2 Diabetes affects people who are overweight, eating a low-calorie, low Gi diet, as recommended on the Slimavite plan is fantastic for promoting weight loss and may help control blood sugars in diabetics.

I had considered going on another meal replacement diet where all three meals were preplaced by drinks but, as I'm a type 2 diabetic, the doctor advised me against it. I mentioned the advert for the Slimavite trial I had seen in the Metro and he said it would be very good for me as the milkshakes only replace two meals a day and I can have a low GI meal as well as two low GI snacks.
